PlayAnnapolis is now playing a transformative role in connecting kids like Gerardo to sports, embodying its mission to ensure all youth have access to recreation and sports year-round.
"At my doctor's appointment last year, I found out I was prediabetic, and it really motivated me to make smarter choices about my diet and fitness. So I joined the swim team, even though I didn’t know how to swim well. By the end of my first season, I had trained hard and entered the 100-meter individual medley, which was my big goal. It wasn’t easy, but I was determined to finish—and I did! To top it off, I won the 'Golden Penguin Award' for my team, the Truxton Park Penguins, after my first summer swim season. It felt amazing to see all my hard work pay off and to be surrounded by a team and coaches that had my back every step of the way. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and excited to keep improving and staying active through sports!" - Gerardo
